When Promise B. Mae walks into a room, the energy shifts. There’s a magnetism about her, a quiet confidence that commands attention, not for spectacle but for substance. She’s not just another woman with big dreams; she’s a living embodiment of purpose in motion, an entrepreneur, activist, and creative visionary determined to leave a mark that outlasts the moment.

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Promise grew up in a household where perseverance was non-negotiable. The eldest of her siblings, she was raised by her grandmother, a woman who instilled faith, fortitude, and a fierce sense of self-belief. From her days on the dance team to leading in church and excelling in sports, Promise always carried an unmistakable spark.

By 15, she already held her first job and a driver’s license, milestones that hinted at the driven, self-made woman she would become.

After high school, Promise spent nearly a decade mastering business operations within the Hilton hotel brand, where she quickly rose through the ranks and became known for her leadership and precision. But deep down, she knew she was destined for more than corporate life.

Her natural presence, striking, confident, and bold, began to attract attention from local media. A feature as a Rihanna look-alike and a cameo on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta Season 5 propelled her into the public eye, but Promise wasn’t chasing fame, she was chasing freedom.

“I never wanted to just be seen,” she says. “I wanted to build something that meant something.”

That “something” became The Box Detox, a feminine wellness brand that challenged stigma and sparked empowerment. Through authentic marketing, influencer partnerships, and Promise’s signature boldness, the brand quickly became a six-figure success.

Her business acumen caught the attention of major players, including CNBC, where she was featured in a special entrepreneur series hosted by none other than Kevin O’Leary, better known as Mr. Wonderful.

But Promise wasn’t done breaking molds.

When an opportunity with Zeus Network didn’t go as planned, she didn’t wait for the door to reopen. She built her own. In true trailblazer fashion, she launched The Real West Coast Baddies and established The Nyx Network, a Black-owned, woman-led streaming platform celebrating raw, unfiltered storytelling. Within its first year, The Nyx Network became another six-figure venture under her belt, solidifying Promise as one of the most powerful rising media moguls in the game.

Expanding her empire, Promise also founded Buss Down Hair Goddess by Nyx, a luxury hair and beauty brand known for its vibrant, unapologetic aesthetic and quality craftsmanship. The success of her beauty business only reinforced what Promise stands for—that Black women can lead with creativity, own their narratives, and dominate every space they step into.

She’s also the owner of Nyx Auto Sales, a transportation company that reflects her belief in generational wealth, ownership, and diversification. “I want to show that we can build in every industry,” she explains. “We don’t have to be limited to one lane.”

Outside of business, Promise’s heart beats for her community. Through her movement Black Existence Matters, she’s organized protests, led empowerment events, and spoken at city council meetings to advocate for systemic change in Black communities. For her, activism isn’t separate from entrepreneurship, it’s part of her purpose.

“Everything I do, from wellness to media to activism, connects back to healing and representation,” Promise says. “If my work helps one woman see her power, then I’ve done my job.”

With multiple six-figure ventures, a thriving beauty empire, and a growing media platform, Promise B. Mae is far from finished. Her story is still being written, one rooted in faith, fearlessness, and an unshakable belief that Black women deserve to own their light and their legacy.

“I’ve learned that every setback is a setup for something greater,” she reflects. “I’m not waiting for validation—I’m building it for myself.”

This fall, she’s celebrating yet another milestone and the grand opening of her new salon, Baddies R Us Beauty Bar, is set for October 25th at noon at 6100 Mack Rd., Suite G, Sacramento, CA 95823. The event will mark not just the expansion of her beauty brand, but a full-circle moment for Promise as a creator, businesswoman, and community builder in her hometown.
